Around and About for Sept. 15, 2012

Valerie Baum, of Denver, graduated with honors Aug. 17 from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, with a Master’s of Business Administration. She is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School.

Air Force Airman Alex V. Hefner, a 2011 graduate of De Soto High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Air Force Airman Steven J. Hunt, a 2008 graduate of Oskaloosa High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Air Force Airman 1st Class Lance D. Lamborn, a 2007 graduate of McLouth High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Lamborn earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Army Pfc. James D. Edwards, a 2009 graduate of Tonganoxie High School, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony and other exercises.

Kansas Bureau of Investigation Director Kirk Thompson congratulated 36 new law enforcement officers during their graduation from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center on Aug. 24 in Yoder. Area graduates are Jason Colobong, a patrol officer for the Tonganoxie Police Department; Hunter Dryden, a deputy for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Ottawa; and John-Francisco Marino, a patrol officer for the Bonner Springs Police Department.
