A 33-year-old Lawrence man hospitalized after a motorcycle accident Sunday has died.

Gary Michael Lee Prather, on his 33rd birthday, was with a group of cyclists from a church outing about 3 p.m. Sunday when he lost control on a turn on County Road 458, near the turnoff to go to Lone Star Lake, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Prather, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and later taken by LifeStar ambulance to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.

According to Prather’s obituary, he died the day after the accident.
