Juco defensive end taps Kansas

Always looking to improve and add depth to its offensive and defensive lines, the Kansas University football team picked up a huge victory in the recruiting game late Monday night, when Andrew Bolton, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive end from Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., orally committed to join the Jayhawks.

During his first season at Hinds CC, Bolton recorded 65 tackles, including 18 for loss and nine sacks. That monster performance attracted attention from some of college football’s biggest names, as Alabama, LSU and Ohio State were among the several schools showing serious interest in Bolton.

In an interview with JayhawkSlant.com, Bolton said the fact that KU coach Charlie Weis and the Jayhawks offered the total package played a big role in his decision.

“They talked about football but I liked how they were serious about school work,” Bolton told Jon Kirby. “I liked meeting all of the coaches and getting to know them. I liked being around the players. They took good care of us.”

Linebackers coach DeMontie Cross was the lead recruiter for Bolton, who made his official visit to campus last weekend for the TCU game and became the eighth member in the Class of 2013 to pledge his services to the Jayhawks.

In other recruiting news, KU commitment Colin Spencer, a 5-10, 179-pound defensive back, recently began playing quarterback for his high school team in Dallas.
