City offering compost for sale on two upcoming Saturdays

The first of two city of Lawrence compost sales this fall will be Saturday.

The sale on Saturday is for residents who will load compost into their truck or trailer themselves. The second sale, Sept. 29, will be for residents who would like city staff to load compost into their truck or trailer.

Both sales will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the city’s Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St. The Sept. 29 sale may end early if supplies run out.

The city scheduled two different sales this year to allow residents who need a smaller amount of compost to pick it up before supplies run out, according to a news release from Kathy Richardson, the city’s waste reduction and recycling operations supervisor.

Compost will cost $10 per truck or trailer load at both of the sales. Residents must pay with cash. At this Saturday’s sale, small quantities will be available for free, and residents must bring a shovel.

The compost offered comes from the city’s weekly collection of residential yard waste.
