One of two Topeka men accused of attempting to rob three Kansas University students in late August has pleaded guilty.

Garrett Paulson, 19, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated robbery and criminal threat Tuesday in Douglas County District Court.

The charges stem from an Aug. 29 incident at The Reserve apartment complex, 2511 W. 31st St., in which three students were approached by two men, one of whom had a gun.

A struggle ensued between the armed suspect and a male student standing outside the SUV. The suspect punched the victim, then struck the victim on his head with the pistol, which fired into the ground, according to police.

The suspects took the victim’s keys and fled in another vehicle.

Sterling James Wilkins, 19, has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and interfering with a law enforcement officer in the incident. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 3.
