Dozens of citations issued in weekend enforcement action

Lawrence police conducted a special enforcement action in the Oread neighborhood Friday and Saturday nights. Lawrence police Sgt. Trent McKinley said that during the action, police wrote citations or made arrests for the following violations:

• 16 alcohol

• 14 parking

• Three traffic

• Three pedestrian offenses

• Two drunken driving

• Two urinating in public

McKinley recapped other criminal activities in Lawrence over the weekend:

• About 6 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a burglary in the 900 block of West 18th Street. The resident was asleep when someone forced entry through a back door. The resident woke, and the suspect fled. No suspect description was available.

• About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a male Kansas University student, who was waiting in the downtown area for a KU SafeBus, accepted a ride from a heavyset black man in a dark-gray passenger car. During the ride, the driver began making unwanted sexual advances toward the passenger and grabbed him in a sexual manner. The passenger fled the vehicle when the driver stopped at a convenience store.

• About 1:40 a.m. Monday, police responded to a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted in east Lawrence. The woman was treated at the hospital, but further details on the case were not available.

• Shortly after 3 a.m. Monday, police responded to two reports of gunshots a couple of blocks apart: one in the 3100 block of West 28th Street and the other in the 2900 block of Pebble Lane. Police investigated but did not locate shell casings or suspects.
