Lawrence City Commission agenda for September 11, 2012

Agenda highlights • 6:35 p.m. Tuesday • City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets • Knology Channel 25 • Meeting documents online at lawrenceks.org

Bottom line

City commissioners will consider approving the Northeast Area Plan, a document that spells out future land uses for much of the undeveloped portions of Grant Township in northern Douglas County.

Background

The plan has been debated for multiple years by Lawrence city commissioners and Douglas County commissioners. The two groups have disagreed about how much land should be labeled for future industrial growth, particularly near the Lawrence Municipal Airport and Interstate 70. The latest version of the plan, which already has been approved by the County Commission, calls for significantly less industrial land than was once proposed.
