Defensive lineman Ty McKinney to enroll at KU in January

Kansas football coach Charlie Weis announced Thursday afternoon that defensive lineman Ty McKinney will not enroll at KU until the spring semester.

“After discussing this matter with Ty McKinney, he has decided to wait until January to enroll at KU. Tomorrow (Sept. 7) he will take his last final exam (at Trinity Valley CC) and believes that any attempt to catch up academically at KU would be futile,” Weis said.

“Ty has three years to play two–which means when he enrolls in January, he would then have two years of eligibility to be played in two years. Ty intends to take extra classes at a junior college in preparation for January. Per Ty’s request, I will not respond to questions on this matter moving forward.”

KU plays host to Rice at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
