From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 31, 1987:

About one-third of the students at Linwood Junior-Senior High School had staged a brief walkout from classes recently to protest the school board’s decision to send high school students to Basehor next year. At its meeting earlier this month, the board had voted to consolidate grades seven at eight at Linwood and grades nine through 12 at Basehor beginning next fall. About 50 students had participated in the 45-minute walkout. Most of the members of the high school football and volleyball teams had stayed in class, with several of them reporting that their coaches had informed them that they couldn’t play in the upcoming weekend games if they walked out of class. Linwood principal Mrs. Ammeen said that there would be no punishment for students who had left class with their teacher’s permission or who had joined in the walkout during their lunch hour. One student said that she was worried that Linwood students would not be treated at Basehor, where they would be in the minority. Others expressed concern that they wouldn’t have a chance to serve as class officers or participate in sports or other activities at Basehor.
