KU School of Music to salute Bernstein

Works of famed composer Leonard Bernstein are the focus of the Kansas University School of Music’s upcoming trio of performances, “A Bernstein Triptych,” which kicks off this week.

The first event will feature the KU Wind Ensemble performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Yardley Hall at Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd. in Overland Park. The event is free, but tickets are required. For tickets, call the box office at 913-469-4445.

The annual KU School of Music Scholarship Concert, featuring KU’s Symphony Orchestra and Choirs, is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway in Kansas City, Mo. The event is free, but tickets are required and very limited. For tickets, call the Kauffman Center’s box office at 816-994-7200.

Finally, KU Opera will present “Trouble in Tahiti” and “Arias and Barcarolles” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16, 17 and 19 and at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Robert Baustian Theatre in Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive. Tickets are $10, or $5 for students and seniors. For tickets, call 864-3436.
