From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 21, 1972:

• John F. Michel, associate professor of speech and drama at Kansas University, had been awarded the senior class HOPE (Honor for the Outstanding Progressive Educator) award today during halftime of the Kansas-Nebraska football game. The HOPE award had been initiated by the senior class of 1959 to honor outstanding classroom teaching at KU.
• Kansas duck hunters needed to be alert about new rules at the opening of the season in this part of the state this week. The season was now to be based upon a point system, rather than the old limit policy. An article today explained it as follows: “For example, a hunter is allowed 100 points a day. A mallard hen ‘costs’ the hunter 90 points while a baldpate is only 10.” The article went on to state that there had been no early reports of “outstanding duck success” here, but that the weekend looked promising.
