From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 17, 1972:

• Kansas University officials were expecting a record crowd of 52,000 football fans on Saturday for the KU-Nebraska matchup. John Novotny, assistant athletic director, said that the crowd was expected to be “without a doubt, the biggest crowd we’ve had.” The record at the time for attendance at Memorial Stadium had been set at the KU-K-State Game of the previous season, which had brought in 51,161 fans, then the largest crowd ever gathered for a sporting event in the state. A line of folding chairs representing a 69th row was to be installed on both sides of the stadium for Saturday’s game.
• About $900 worth of carpeting had been stolen over the weekend from a house under construction at 419 Homestead. Entry appeared to have been gained through an unlocked window.
