The next lecture in a series honoring slain Kansas University student Jana Mackey will feature equal-pay advocate Lilly Ledbetter.

The namesake of the 2009 Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act will speak at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in Woodruff Auditorium at the Kansas Union, as part of the Jana Mackey Distinguished Lecture Series.

The lecture is titled “And Justice for All? Why Equal Pay for Women Matters to Everyone.”

Ledbetter’s pay-discrimination case against Goodyear helped inspire the 2009 law, which was the first signed by President Barack Obama after taking office.

The lecture series honors Mackey, a KU law student who was killed in 2008 by a former boyfriend. She was an advocate for women’s rights.

The event is sponsored by the Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity at KU along with a number of other offices and groups on- and off-campus, as well as Mackey’s mother and stepfather, Christie and Curt Brungardt.
