Jared Vinoverski, a Lawrence High School graduate, was nominated as a Pittsburg State University Homecoming king candidate.

Emporia State University’s Homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime festivities today. Students from this area who were nominated are Chase McIver, of Overbrook, for king; and Lezley Lawson, of McLouth, for queen.

Caroline Houston Bauer, formerly of Lawrence, graduated from Columbia University in New York City on May 16, with a Master of Science in Urban Planning. She is employed as a production and program associate with the Design Trust for Public Space in New York City.

Army Reserve Pvt. Kelsey A. Dunning, a 2011 Tonganoxie High School graduate, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, Dunning studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training and other subjects.

Leah Towle, a graduate of Lawrence High School, has been awarded the Thresher Scholarship from Bethel College in North Newton for the 2012-13 academic year. The scholarship is valued at $38,000 over a four-year period. Leah is also recognized as a National Merit Scholar.
