A collaborative quilt exhibition involving Lawrence middle-schoolers is now on display at Topeka’s Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site.

“The Ray of Hope: Aaron Douglas-inspired Quilts and Murals,” features quilts and murals created by eighth-graders from Lawrence’s Liberty Memorial Central Middle School and Topeka’s Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School. Lawrence quilt artist Marla Jackson led the project, in which children created colorful quilt blocks inspired by Aaron Douglas and the Harlem Renaissance.

The exhibit, which was previously displayed at Lawrence’s Spencer Museum of Art, runs through Oct. 28 in Topeka. The historic site, 1515 SE Monroe St., is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For more information call 785-354-4273 or go online to nps.gov/brvb.
