100 years ago: KU students organize to support Bull Moose Party

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 13, 1912:

“The supporters of the Bull Moose movement who are students at the University met yesterday and formed an organization to push the interests of their party in the coming campaign. The meeting was held at the Phi Delt house and there were about thirty in attendance. On account of the prominence of the equal suffrage plank in the Progressive party’s platform it was decided to admit the women of the University to membership in the new club. The name of the new organization is Equal Suffrage Organization of Bull Moosers of the University of Kansas…. William Allen White was elected an honorary charter member and will address the club soon.”

“Plina Strode, Rosie Moore, George Peters, John McIntyre and George Brannon were in police court this morning charged with being drunk. They were all assessed the regulation $6.50 with the exception of McIntyre, who was given an $8.50 dose…. A Mexican with a suit case filled with half pints was arrested by the officers last night as he was leaving a train from Kansas City. He is accused of violating the prohibitory law. He gave the name of Felix Martinez.”
