Olathe ? For the first time this season, Free State High’s gymnastics team didn’t finish a competition in first place.

Thursday night at Olathe East, the Firebirds, with 103.1 points, had to settle for second after host O-East scored 103.65.

Lawrence finished third at the quad, with 93.6 points.

Carrie Howland led FSHS in the vault, balance beam and floor exercise. Ashley Ammann had the top scores for LHS in the same events.

Both teams will compete Saturday at the Sunflower League Championships at Shawnee Mission East.
