Statehouse Live: Brownback sells tax plan in Colorado

— Last week at the Colorado Conservative Political Action Committee meeting in Denver, Gov. Sam Brownback was cheered when he invited people to move to Kansas to take advantage of his new tax cuts.

Brownback, a Republican, also said state government went from a $500 million deficit to $500 million surplus in two fiscal years without raising taxes. However, in the legislative session before Brownback was elected, the Legislature approved and then-Gov. Mark Parkinson, a Democrat, signed into law a temporary sales tax increase that helped produce revenue in Brownback's first two years in office.

Here is Brownback's comment to the Colorado CPAC. It starts at 5:32 of this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSQPF6iEo9A

"We did not raise taxes. We just cut our taxes. And by the way, I want to invite anybody here to move to Kansas, so you hunt pheasant, have a good time, and if you're an LLC, or sub-S, or sole proprietorship, zero state income tax. Zero state income tax in the state of Kansas," Brownback said.

And you'd better bring an educated and trained work force with you, because once Brownback gets done destroying the schools and universities, you won't find them in Kansas.

Two years from now he'll be inviting people to move to Kansas and ask them to bring rocks with them so we can all bang them together.

I, hyperinflate, will state for the record on October 9, 2012 at 9:50AM that this does not end well.

As well as an economy in the black that he had nothing to do with:

Of Course. Brownback is so self assured of his own bad taste he wants to impose it on everyone. He isn't happy with just dismantling Kansas. He thinks spreading the insanity to other states will help his Presidential delusions of grandeur become reality. His delusions only.

Great Brownback, so the partner of a law firm gets an extra $10k in his pocket to take an extended holiday in Mexico or Arizona, while the secretaries, office workers, maintenance staff all get shafted paying higher taxes than someone making 6 times the amount.

Only six times? Are you Kidding? Back in the 50s CEOs made about 40 times that of a production worker. Today it is in the 1000s. CEO pay is haywire and compensation committee members on corporate boards should all be tossed until they get the message. Its all in the hands of stockholders and board members rarely hold a majority of the stock so get busy stockholders.

It's not just CEO's-- it's also the other top officers in these corporations, and the incestuous BOD's they sit on for each other, approving these ridiculous pay packages for each other.

Now expecting the trolls to attack Scott for his pinko-liberal slant in pointing out the true reason for the revenue increase.

I think even THEY find it hard to defend what is indefensible.

When did the Republican Party go insane? So far not one single major employer has credited Sam's tax scam for moving to Kansas. We lost two major employers which said they didn't consider it a compelling reason to stick around. Sam is taking credit for the revenue generated by his predecessors sales tax increase. There is no logical way to explain what Sam Brownback is saying. I think he could actually be mentally ill.

Go ahead Governor Brownback. Don't stop with Colorado! Hit every state with your wit and wisdom. You have plenty of time to take a LONG trip. It is probably best if you spend MORE time in other states. Hopefully, it would Lessen the damage you do here.Oh, and take Kobach with you. He is a Pro at working in OTHER states.
