Lions send 2 to state golf

? Lawrence High’s girls golf team missed out on qualifying for state by just two strokes Monday at a Class 6A regional at Overland Park Golf Course. The Lions took fourth place, and only the top three teams advance to next Monday’s state tournament.

A pair of Lions, however, occupied two of the five individual state-qualifying spots that go to golfers from non-qualifying teams. Senior Anna Wright shot a 91 to qualify, and junior Abigail Schmidtberger joined her by shooting a 92.

The season ended for the rest of the Lions. Junior Campbell Drake shot a 94, senior Quillen Eichhorn finished with a 99, senior Attie Pennybaker had a 103 and senior Caroline Gish wrapped up with a 113.

Wright and Schmidtberger will compete at 6A state next Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club, in Wichita.
