40 years ago: ‘Town Crier’ arrives in downtown Lawrence

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 9, 1972:

  • Construction was nearly finished on a business and professional building at 930 Massachusetts. Spaces for offices and professional services were to be available in the building, which was now undergoing some interior furnishing and the installation of an elevator. The entire street-level space was already leased to the Town Crier.
  • The weekend of Oct. 20, 21, and 22 was going to be a busy one in Baldwin, Kansas. The annual Maple Leaf Festival, Baker University Homecoming and Parents’ Weekend, and Baldwin High School Homecoming were all scheduled for that weekend this year.
  • Movies showing in Lawrence theaters this week included “Nicholas and Alexandra,” “Easy Rider,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Slaughterhouse-Five,” and Woody Allen’s “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask.”
