From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 8, 1972:

• A 21-year-old man identified only as “Kelly” had testified this week to the U.S. House Select Committee on Crime that a drug peddling operation existed at Kansas University. The man told committee members that he and a KU fraternity president, bankrolled by the fraternity treasury, had operated a drug-dealing business catering to Kansas City conventions. Donald Alderson, KU dean of men, who had been following broadcasts of the hearings, said that he had no knowledge of any such operation and did not recognize the man as a KU student.
• About 5,000 football fans attending the Lawrence High School – Shawnee Mission West game had witnessed an interesting halftime ceremony last night. A group of almost 200 people, made up of LHS band members and United Fund agency representatives, had gathered on the field at Haskell Stadium, serving as a graphic representation of how many Lawrence citizens were helped by, or worked for, the 16 agencies supported by the annual UF fund drive.
