A Kickstarter campaign is hoped to help launch “River City Reunion Revisited,” a book of black-and-white photos documenting a 1987 Beat Generation literary festival in Lawrence.

Images such as William S. Burroughs shooting a gun from his collection, Keith Haring drawing on the sidewalk on Seventh Street and Allen Ginsberg reading from “Howl” are slated for inclusion and currently online at rivercityreunion.com.

The project aims to raise $2,500 by Wednesday on kickstarter.com. As of last week, just under $2,000 had been raised.

According to her Kickstarter campaign, Kansas University graduate Rosemary Marchetta of Providence, R.I., shot more than a dozen rolls of film at the River City Reunion, a weeklong festival of readings and other activities that weren’t widely covered by mainstream media.

“This book is a collection of 25 never-before-published photographs that document some of the highlights of this event,” says Marchetta, who notes that this fall marks the 25th anniversary of the event. “Perhaps even more significantly these photographs stand as a testament to the pre-digital, post-hippie era of the late 1980’s.”
