40 years ago: Workers converting electrical systems at KU

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 7, 1972:

  • Observant visitors to the Kansas University campus may have noticed workers excavating a large hole on Sunflower Road behind Green Hall this week. The KU Building and Grounds Department was in the process of converting the 4,000-volt electrical systems in some campus buildings to 12,000-volt systems, and the hole was necessary for workers to attach a junction box to the side of a tunnel there.
  • The Johnson County District Court was expected to issue a ruling in about two weeks on legal arguments determining the future of Highway K-10 construction between K-7 and DeSoto. Judge Herbert Walton had taken under advisement the arguments of the State Highway Commission and a landowner seeking a permanent injunction on the acquisition of his land.
