The Four Winds Native Center, 15th Street and Haskell Avenue, is looking for volunteers who can help with its Indian taco sale and fundraiser on Friday. Volunteers are needed to help with setup from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; during the sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and with cleanup starting at 6 p.m. until finished. Tasks during the sale include serving, delivery driving and running to the store for any needed items. All volunteers will receive a free Indian taco. Immediate needs

• Lawrence Community Shelter is in need of volunteers to help with its Block Party on Wednesday, Oct. 17. They are seeking 10 to 14 volunteers to help out from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with setup, serving food and cleanup. Volunteers will meet at 5:15 p.m. on the front porch of LCS, 214 W. 10th St., for a brief orientation before the party gets started. • The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority is in need of several volunteers for the New York School Walking School Bus. A Walking School Bus, or WSB, is a group of students, with adult supervision, walking along a set route between school and their homes; it is a fun, healthy and simple alternative to motorized transportation. The New York WSB calls on parents and community members to be volunteer “drivers” and supervise children on their afternoon walk home from school. Volunteers are needed on all days that school is in session, except Wednesdays, from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Ideally, volunteers will be able to commit to “driving” the WSB one day a week for at least a semester. • Family Promise of Lawrence is in need of volunteers to provide support for its guest families staying overnight at host congregations each night. Families are transported at 5 p.m. each evening to their host congregations, where they will have dinner, spend the evening, sleep and have breakfast before being transported back to the Day Center about 6:30 a.m. the next morning. Volunteers are needed to help at the host congregations in the evenings by preparing dinner, helping with after-dinner cleanup, offering conversation and friendship to the families, possibly tutoring the children, providing supervision overnight, and preparing breakfast in the morning. All volunteers must attend a one-time training session before volunteering with guests; sessions are held at least once a month. • The Windsor of Lawrence Assisted Living and Memory Care is seeking volunteers for a variety of programs at its facility. Examples of current volunteer needs include coming up with ideas for and hosting a ladies coffee group, and hosting a piano sing-along with residents. Volunteers for these opportunities and others need to be social, outgoing and comfortable with residents who may have various limitations.
