LHS quarterback Strauss named finalist for area award

Lawrence High senior quarterback Brad Strauss was named a finalist for the Thomas A. Simone Award Tuesday evening.

Strauss threw for 2,278 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushed for 743 yards and 14 touchdowns in the Lions’ 8-3 season.

The other three finalists for the award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding high school football player in the Kansas City metro area, are Staley senior quarterback Trent Hosick, Fort Osage senior quarterback Steven McBee and Blue Springs junior running back Dalvin Warmack.

The winner will be announced Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Eudora senior defensive lineman Nick Becker was named one of four finalists for another honor, the Bobby Bell Award, which also will be unveiled Dec. 4.

Both Strauss and Becker were named to the 2012 All-Simone Team, as was Free State senior defensive back Kyle McFarland.
