Afternoon tea to feature ‘Sound of Music’ cast

The Honored Citizens Club will be holding an afternoon tea for people 55 and older on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St.

The event, which begins at 3 p.m., will feature traditional English tea with finger foods, as well as songs performed by cast members of Theatre Lawrence’s “Sound of Music.”

Event organizer Kirsty Elliot, who helped start the Honored Citizens Club, hopes the event will allow senior citizens within the area to meet new people.

“One of the things we have always heard from seniors that we talked to as a community are the words ‘I wish there was something to do or a place to make new friends,'” Elliot said. “The fun part of having ‘The Sound of Music’ is it is something the people who will attend the tea have seen and that it stimulates the conversation.”

There is a suggested donation of $3 for the event.
