Carolyn Davis joins 1,400 club; KU women down Creighton

? Kansas University senior Carolyn Davis joined the 1,400-point club as No. 22 Kansas University remained undefeated with a 58-48 nonconference women’s basketball victory over Creighton on Sunday at D.J. Sokol Arena.

Davis was 5-for-6 from the floor and had 12 points. She has 1,400 for her career.

Monica Engelman added 12 points and CeCe Harper 10 for the Jayhawks (5-0).

Kansas shot 24-for-45 (53.3 percent) from the field and scored 24 points off Bluejay turnovers.

KU opened with a 16-4 run and used balanced offense — seven Jayhawks scored — to take a 30-18 lead over Creighton (2-2) into halftime.

The Jayhawks led by as many as 19 before Creighton made it 52-43 with 4:24 to play.

The Bluejays came within eight points twice, but baskets by Harper and Engelman and two free throws by Natalie Knight in the final 34 seconds set the final margin.

“Monica hit a tough two to start and helped her get off to a good start,” Kansas coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “This was a solid team effort, and we got great offensive support from both Monica and CeCe. It was a good win.”

Kansas will host Grambling State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.
