Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. FUNdamental Softball: Learn the proper mechanics and techniques to playing softball. Fast-pitch: A 12U fast-pitch softball team is looking for a first baseman and a utility player for the fall season. The team practices in the Lawrence area and has indoor facilities for winter. Contact coach Andrew at 785-840-7193.

U11 baseball seeking: Competitive U11 baseball team looking for one dedicated player for 2013 Season. Cannot turn 12 before May 1, 2013. Team will play in several tournaments. Contact for tryout information.

Five Tool league: Teams interested in playing in the Five Tool Softball league for teams 16U and under during the 2013 summer should contact Steve Seratte at 760-1446. The league is looking primarily for tournament teams.

Salvation Army clinic: The Salvation Army Thanksgiving basketball clinic will be Nov. 24 at the East Lawrence Recreation Center. The clinic for second- and third-graders will be 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; fourth- and fifth-graders will be 1:30-4 p.m. For registration information, email

Tanner world champion: Brady Tanner of Lawrence won two championships in the world Association of Bench Press and Deadlifters in Las Vegas. Tanner won the bench press with a lift of 415 pounds, and won outstanding lifter for his category. Tanner also won a world championships in deadlifting with a lift of 530 pounds, and also was named outstanding lifter in the category. Tanner has won a total of nine championships in bench press and nine championships in deadlifting.

Holiday hoops clinic: Coach Bonnie Henrickson and the Kansas University women’s basketball team will be conducting its annual Holiday Hoops Clinic on Sunday, Dec. 30 from noon to 2 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse. The clinic is open to girls and boys in kindergarten through eighth grade, and registration for the event will open on Monday, Nov. 19. The cost is $15 per child and $5 per participating adult. All children registered for the clinic will receive a voucher at its conclusion, which is good for three tickets to one of the upcoming KU women’s basketball games: Kansas State (Jan. 2), Baylor (Jan. 13) or Texas (Jan. 23). Check-in for the clinic will be at 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 30, in the north concourse of Allen Fieldhouse. To register, visit and print out a registration form.

Basketball, volleyball, dodgeball: Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is taking team registration for winter adult basketball, volleyball and dodgeball. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 7, but register by Wednesday, Nov. 28 and receive a discount on the registration fee. For information, call 832-7920 or log on to the website at
