Event supports suicide survivors

Headquarters Counseling Center and First United Methodist Church will host an International Survivors of Suicide Day national broadcast and local panel on Saturday.

The event will run from 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St.

The event will be focused on providing support for those who have lost a friend or loved one to suicide.

“It’s a chance to say, ‘This is something sad that happens but it doesn’t make anyone a bad person,'” Headquarters director Marcia Epstein said. “It’s OK for us to talk about this. By talking about this we help everyone in the room and we go out in the world and have those conversations as well.”

There will be a viewing of a national suicide survivors broadcast in which experts will talk about dealing with suicide. There will also be a local panel discussion after the broadcast and a candle lighting ceremony for those lost to suicide.

Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to send an RSVP to Marcia@HeadquatersCounselingCenter.org.
