Sites near Eudora and Baldwin City have received a key recommendation to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review has recommended the B’nai Israel Cemetery near Eudora and the Trail Park and Trail Park DAR Marker near Baldwin City be added to the national register.

The Keeper of the National Register of Historic Places now will consider the recommendations and determine whether to add the sites in the next several months.

The B’nai Israel Cemetery, 1301 E. 2100 Road, was established in 1858. It is the only surviving property associated with the Jewish community in Eudora, which flourished from 1857 to 1867, according to the site’s nomination.

The Trail Park and Trail Park DAR Marker is just north of Baldwin City and marks a portion of the Santa Fe Trail that runs through Douglas County. Two chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution erected a monument in 1907.
