KU’s Malott Hall reopens after evacuation for report of possible chemical leak

Malott Hall on the Kansas University campus was evacuated for concerns of a possible chemical leak at 5:41 p.m. Wednesday after a skunk-like smell was reported on the fourth and fifth floors.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical, KU Public Safety, KU Environment, Health and Safety, and hazardous materials crews responded to the call but found no dangerous chemical leak.

“It’s always good that people are willing to call,” KU Police Sgt. James Anguiano said. “It’s better safe than sorry.”

Malott Hall, which houses the chemistry department, was reopened for classes about 6:30 p.m.
