19-year-old Haskell student charged in alleged sexual assault

A 19-year-old Haskell Indian Nations University student was charged Tuesday in connection with an alleged early Monday morning sexual assault.

Police were called to the Haskell campus about 4 a.m., where a female student there reported that the suspect followed her into her room and assaulted her, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley.

Though the man was originally arrested on a charge of attempted rape, he was charged Tuesday with aggravated sexual battery and criminal trespass. The sexual battery charge is a level-5 person felony, punishable by up to 136 months in prison.

Bond was set at $12,500.
