The East Lawrence Neighborhood Association is seeking community volunteers to help with its sidewalk workday from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. The goal is to improve walkability between the newly formed Warehouse Arts District and the downtown Lawrence area. Volunteers will meet between 8-8:30 a.m. on the lot directly west of the Poehler Building at Eighth and Pennsylvania streets. Tasks will include removing a few inches of soil and grass off the public sidewalk in order to expose and clean up the bricks. No specific skills are required, just a willingness to work hard and a desire to help beautify the neighborhood. Coffee, bagels and water will be provided for volunteers. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Myers at 785-218-2636 or mike@hernly.com.

Volunteers get matched to people in need and commit to visiting their residence after each significant snow fall (at least 2 inches) to shovel for them. If you’re interested in helping fellow community members ensure their walkways remain safe throughout the winter, please call 785-832-3338 or register as a volunteer online at lawrenceks.org.
