Viewers turn out for the most arcane award shows. And nobody can resist a YouTube dog clip or a shaggy dog story. So why not combine the two? Hallmark does just that with the 2012 Hero Dog Awards (7 p.m.). Broadway and television star Kristin Chenoweth (“Pushing Daisies”) hosts.

More than 3 million people voted online to choose seven service dogs in categories that include Military Dogs, Therapy Dogs and Search and Rescue Dogs. An eighth award for Emerging Hero Dog was given to an ordinary pooch that behaved bravely under unusual circumstances.

The Hero Dog Awards were taped last month. There’s no talk of a red carpet or of paparazzi screaming, “What are you wearing?” at the nominees. But it was held in Beverly Hills, Calif., so anything’s possible.

• “Burn Notice” (8 p.m., USA) returns with a two-hour episode. The sunny, over-the-top spy drama has the gang trapped in Panama with no way out. Only, there is always a way out. The only thing Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) really can’t escape is the guilt trip brought on by his mother (Sharon Gless).
