From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 3, 1987:

A “small but spirited” Lawrence group calling itself the Alliance of Citizens for Traditional Values was gearing up for its first fight. The new organization, whose members listed among their concerns “homosexuality, drug abuse, spouse and child abuse, abortion, pornography, secular humanism in public schools, gambling and anti-Christian activities” was investigating a proposed city amendment. The amendment to the city’s human rights ordinance would have prohibited discrimination against homosexuals. Although meeting attendance had dwindled from 38 interested members to 10 during the last couple of months, the group said they were not discouraged. Formerly called the Douglas County Coalition for Traditional Values, the organization had adopted their new name last week, saying it would be pronounced as “active.” Members were considering a slate of officers for election and were looking forward to meeting again in early December.
