Memorial Day services set

To honor service members, VFW and American Legion posts in Lawrence and surrounding areas will host ceremonies Monday at designated cemeteries.

VFW Post 852, Lawrence, will have a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. In an effort to reach out to younger veterans and the veteran community as a whole, there will be an all-Iraq/Afghanistan veteran Honor Guard at the ceremony, as well as a veteran from the Iraq War speaking.

American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, Lawrence, will host two Memorial Day ceremonies. There will be a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery and another at 11:30 a.m. at Clinton Cemetery.

Lloyd Beaton American Legion Post 228, Baldwin City, is scheduled to host a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery. The ceremony will include a ringing of the memorial bell, when those attending can say the name of a friend or family member, what branch of the service he or she served in and ring the bell.

American Legion Post 142, Perry, will host a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at Lecompton Cemetery.

All ceremonies are free and open to the public.
