KU Hospital purchases Overland Park surgery building

Kansas University Hospital has acquired a 42,000-square-foot inpatient surgical hospital building to add to its system of services.

The building, 10720 Nall Ave., Overland Park, is near the intersection of Interstate 435 and Nall and now houses Heartland Surgical Specialty Hospital.

The two-story building has seven operating rooms and 19 inpatient beds, and has diagnostic imaging equipment.

“With the double-digit growth in our number of surgeries and more growth on the way, it is important to have the space our staff needs to continue to provide quality care for our patients,” said Bob Page, KU Hospital president and CEO, in a written statement.

KU Hospital intends to use the building for surgery by a variety of specialties. A new name for the building will be announced later, along with the specialties using the new space.

The hospital plans to hire the facility’s more than 130 non-physician employees, Page said in the statement.

KU Hospital did not disclose the cost of the transaction, which is expected to close in the early summer. The Heartland Surgical Specialty Hospital plans to relocate its operations to a new location, according to the KU Hospital release.
