Robbery suspect released from jail

A 26-year-old Lawrence man who was arrested Monday night on a robbery charge was released from jail as prosecutors did not file formal charges against him Tuesday.

Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokesman, said police were called just before 8 p.m. Tuesday to Game Stop, 3140 Iowa, in reference to a robbery. A 23-year-old Lawrence man reported the suspect, who was an acquaintance, had followed him into the store and taken money from him by force. The victim alleged the suspect confronted him in the store and after a verbal altercation about money the suspect grabbed his face and neck and demanded cash, causing the victim to give the man money he had in his hand, Murphree said.

The argument stopped when an employee approached, and both the suspect and victim then left the building.

According to Douglas County Jail records, officers arrested the suspect at 8:42 p.m. nearby at the Easy Living Mobile Home Park, 3323 Iowa. Douglas County prosecutors could make a decision later about formal charges in the case later. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
