FSHS divers move on to state finals

? Free State High divers Annie Soderberg and Brooke Leslie advanced to the final round of the state diving meet after competition Thursday at Hummer Sports Complex.

Soderberg placed fourth in the semifinals, while Leslie took 10th. Fellow Firebird Jacqueline Zaitz narrowly missed out on the finals when she placed 17th. Only the top 16 will compete today at 1:30 p.m.

Lawrence High’s Allison Williams (21st place) and Free State’s Haley Johnson (22nd) met the same fate after the preliminary round, where only the top 20 advanced.

City swimmers at state

The city’s swimmers will get started at state today when Class 6A prelims begin at 4 p.m.

Free State’s Eliza Anderson, Courtney Caldwell, Katie Kimbrough, Kat LaFever, Alexa Malik, Kate McCurdy, Morgan Miller and Lucy Sirimongkhon-Dyck are scheduled to compete.

Caldwell is the No. 1 seed in the 50 free (23.71 seconds) and 100 free (51.87).

Hana Arch, Rosemary Black and Caroline King are possible FSHS alternates.

Swimming for Lawrence will be Heather Cistola, Gretchen Frick, Hannah Lee, Nicole Oblon, Annie Odrowski, MacKenzie Rhoades, Miranda Rohn, Madison Ruder and Sarah Smoot.

Cistola is seeded second in the 200 free and third in the 100 fly.

LHS is seeded No. 1 in the 200 medley relay (1:53.26) and second in the 400 free relay.

Cistola, Frick, Odrowski and Rohn swim on both relay teams.
