From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 18, 1972:

• Two years of planning and discussion had resulted in subdivision regulations now being proposed in Douglas County. “Harmonious and orderly development” was the stated goal of the suggested laws, which included making provisions for “adequate open space, traffic, recreation, drainage, utilities, light and air, and other public needs.” The regulations were intended to represent a compromise between the often-competing ideas of land developers and of environmentalists.
• Sandra Moore, an English teacher at Haskell Indian Junior College, was one of 12 Native Americans from throughout the country chosen to participate in a graduate school program at Harvard University this summer. She had been awarded a fellowship for the program, which had been designed specifically to prepare participants for higher administrative positions. Moore said that she hoped to work in an administrative capacity in the Bureau of Indian Affairs after completing the program.
