Man accused of causing disturbance at hotel early Monday arrested

Lawrence police arrested Michael Anthony Hughes, 34, of Kansas City, Kan., after he was accused of causing a disturbance early Monday at Motel 6, 1130 N. Third St.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said a motel clerk reported at 2:20 a.m. the man had pulled fire alarms, turned off power breakers and destroyed a wireless router in the hallway. He was also accused of entering another guest’s room without authority and throwing two oranges at the clerk, striking her twice.

Police believe the man was under the influence of drugs. He was taken to the Douglas County Jail on charges of battery, criminal damage, trespassing and a false fire alarm. He posted $400 cash bond and was given notice to appear in Lawrence Municipal Court.
