Class on boating safety set for Saturday

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a one-day boating safety class to the public on Saturday.

The class is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Jayhawk Room in the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical building, 1911 Stewart Ave.

A closed-book exam is administered at the end of the course, and successful completion of the course satisfies the state educational requirement for people 12 years of age or older and born on or after Jan. 1, 1989, and less than 21 years of age, to operate a motorboat, sailboat or personal watercraft.

The course is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. The purchase of a $20 textbook is required. To pre-register, contact Pam Chaffee at pchaffee@hughes.net, or 550-4074.
