From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 13, 1987:

• In what was being called a short-term solution to a large problem of overcrowding, some Lawrence High School classes were being moved into the Administrative Center. The school board had voted unanimously for the move, agreeing that it was just a quick fix and that a more permanent solution, such as a second high school, was probably going to be discussed next year.
• New wooden latticework had been installed on the highway overpass at Sixth and Iowa Streets. Fred DeVictor, city parks and recreation director, said that the installation, which might also get a planting of ivy later on, was meant to make the overpass less attractive to graffiti artists. It was part of a larger beautification project for the northwestern entrance into the city which was a joint effort by parks and recreation, the public works department, and the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
