FSHS softball wins one vs. SMS

? Free State High came close to notching a softball doubleheader sweep of Shawnee Mission South in its last games of the regular season Thursday at SM South.

FSHS (12-7) took Game One, 4-2 with the help of a first-inning Samantha O’Brien home run. The Firebirds were in dominant position late in Game Two. Free State hitters had tallied nine hits, and FSHS led 3-0 in the seventh inning. But with two outs in the bottom of the inning, South loaded the bases and launched a double to the base of the outfield wall to even the score. The game was called after the eighth inning, with the score still 3-3, because of a 9 p.m. light curfew.

As of late Thursday night, the game had not been rescheduled. If Game Two is not continued today, it will go down as a tie.
