25 years ago: Danny Manning staying for senior year

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 10, 1987:

  • Kansas University’s Danny Manning announced this week that he would return to KU in the fall. “I’ve decided to stay for my senior year,” the 6-foot-11 Manning said. “It’s what’s best for me. My family wants me to stay and get my degree and that’s important…. The NBA will always be there hopefully. I’m also looking forward to having a good senior season.” Manning was to report to Colorado Springs next week to participate in the Pan American Games basketball trials.
  • Larry Brown was also planning to stick around Lawrence for a little while longer. It was announced this week that he had signed a new contract that extended through the 1990-1991 season. Since his tenure as KU head coach began in 1983, Brown had led the Jayhawks to a 108-33 record and four consecutive NCAA appearances.
