Irick won two matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores, another 6-0, 6-1, and defeated Olathe North’s Austin Crist, 6-0, 6-2, for the championship.

The state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Maize

Free State placed third and Lawrence High fourth in the eight-team regional.

“Thomas played very very well,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “He lost three games in four matches. That’s pretty efficient playing. I’m very pleased with Grom and Leggins. We’ve been kind of hit and miss. We’ve got some confidence going into state.
