Shredding events scheduled this month

Several local banks will hold free document-shredding events during the month of May.

Capitol Federal will host one from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at 1025 Iowa. Three bags or boxes of paper will be shredded at no charge. For guidelines, visit capfed.com/shreddays.

KU Credit Union will conduct one from 9 a.m. to noon May 12 at the credit union’s branch at 2221 W. 31st St. The limit is two boxes of documents. Electronics also can be recycled at this event. There is no charge for document shredding or for the disposing of hard drives, cellphones and small electronics. Other electronic recycling will be done for a small fee. For example, printers and flat-panel monitors may be recycled for $5 each. CRT monitors, microwave ovens and televisions less than 35 inches may be recycled for $10 each. Douglas County Bank’s event will be from 9 a.m. to noon May 19 at the downtown branch’s parking lot at Ninth and Kentucky streets. Extreme Recycling will also be on hand for free small-electronics recycling. There will be a $10 charge for CRT monitors and $15 for televisions.
