Officers on the Douglas County Fake ID 101 task force cited 27 people, mostly for underage drinking violations, Thursday night and Friday morning as part of a special patrol on the event of Kansas University’s Stop Day, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman.

Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control officers also issued administrative citations to seven bars or establishments alleging they allowed minors to possess alcohol, McKinley said. Officers also issued an administrative citation to New School Catering of Lawrence alleging the caterer failed to notify the city and state it was catering an event at Delta Tau Delta, 1111 W. 11th St.

The 12 officers from the ABC, KU police, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Lawrence police checked 15 licensed establishments and the one catered event, McKinley said. The patrol is funded using grant money from the Kansas Department of Transportation. They also briefly had a plainclothes officer at a counter in a liquor store but didn’t find any violations, he said.

Of the 27 people ticketed, 24 received charges of possession of alcohol by a minor, and 19 were charged for possession or use of a fake ID. One person was arrested for interference with duties of an officer. And one person was cited for littering. Some people were cited for more than one charge.

The ABC administrative citations for allowing minors to possess alcohol were issued at Bullwinkle’s Bar, 1344 Tenn., five counts; The Hawk, 1340 Ohio, three counts; Tonic, 728 Mass., two counts: The Phoggy Dog, 2228 Iowa, two counts; R Bar and Patio, 610 Fla., one count; The Wheel, 507 W. 14th St., one count.

Holiday Inn Lawrence, 200 McDonald Drive, was cited on seven counts alleging the staff allowed minors to possess alcohol and one count of allowing someone to remove alcohol from the licensed premise.
