Simien’s free throw finals postponed

Finals of the second Wayne Simien Free Throw Challenge have been postponed from Sunday to next Saturday.

The event, which the public is invited to observe, starts at 2 p.m. April 7 at Allen Fieldhouse. Preliminaries will be today at various gyms and locations throughout Lawrence.

Organizers said that Kansas University officials asked them to postpone Sunday’s event because the fieldhouse might be in use if the men’s basketball team were to lose its NCAA Tournament game tonight against Ohio State University.

The free throw event is a benefit for Family Promise of Lawrence and Called to Greatness sports ministry, two local nonprofits. Family Promise of Lawrence is an interfaith hospitality network committed to housing homeless families, and Called to Greatness is a multi-sports ministry program that allows underprivileged children a chance to play.
