40 years ago: Kansas City researchers attend Lawrence workshop

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 31, 1972:

  • Twelve staff members of the Midwest Research Institute in Kansas City, Mo., had visited the Kansas University campus on the previous day for several workshops conducted by the Kansas Geological Survey. The group met to discuss topics such as geochemistry, water research programs, the Atomic Energy Commission waste disposal proposals, mineral resources, and environmental geology.
  • Children in Lawrence public schools and St. John’s school were to have holidays for Good Friday and Easter Monday, but for their parents, the days would proceed as usual as there were no holidays scheduled for local businesses, including banks and the post office. Many local organizations were sponsoring Easter egg hunts, including the Lecompton Historical Society.
